The current economy has been through a lot. We lost many companies, jobs, and dreams. People are in total confusion on what is going to happen next.
After the US began bailing out companies and banks, it was a bad idea. I will tell you why. But let's start off with the companies, like auto indus. The auto companies were failing and needed help. The government stepped in, ( cutting up the business cycle) to bail out the companies. Companies like Chevy and Chrysler took the bail out money and were saved... for now. Some companies like Ford denied help from the government, which was a smart idea , they are not dependent on the GOV. Now the government owns a part of GM and even worse GM knows the next time they will begin to fail they will turn the government for help, and when the government has no money well the whole country is gone. If we would let them fend for themselves, yes we would of lost jobs, but those companies would of learn from their mistakes and others will too and the next time around (if there is for that company)they would try to avoid those same issues.
Now the banks. I will not have enough time to type the long history of the banks so I will try to make it small. Okay, Fannie Mae was made in the 1938. This bank was to give out low interest rates on loans so it will cause more people to buy houses. Now when it came into Pres. Johnson's term, he realized that Fannie Mae took over 90% of the economy and he wanted to break up the monopoly. So he made Freddie Mac to break it up. It did , but a housing bubble was growing and growing and getting ready to burst. So in 2008, the bubble finally burst and caused a big fail in the economy. The government, by the way exempt taxes and basically overlooked these banks and let them get away with things that would harm the economy, made a choice to bail these banks out as well. Now this was a bad idea. Let we give you an idea. The government just bailed something out that was already dead, causing more harm than good, and now just took over more companies. More GOV control to you. The reasons why they bailed these banks are complex and will have to do another whole post on that.
